IMPORTANT INFORMATION: FOREST FIRE SPECULATION

I’m aware of the significant smell of smoke across the Forest of Dean today, and I know this is causing a high level of concern for many residents.

I have been in touch with the fire brigade, who have confirmed that there are currently no forest fires in the Forest of Dean.

I’m pleased to have that reassurance and pass this information onto you. I understand that the smoke affecting the Forest of Dean is coming from a fire in Wales.

If you see a fire or have reason to believe there is an immediate risk to people or property, please call 999.

As you can imagine, fire emergency services are extremely busy, so please only contact them if you see a fire or believe there is an immediate risk.

I know how concerning this can be, particularly given the dry conditions, and I will continue to keep an eye on the situation and share any further information as it becomes available.
