With a Labour Government, Schools Succeed!

A lot of people ask, “Why vote Labour?” Here’s why…

With a Labour Government, Schools Succeed!

The Forest of Dean will not be forgotten under Labour. The Secretary of State for Education, the Schools Minister, and I all share a strong belief in the education on offer here in the Forest.

We’ve seen the progress—and you’ve felt it. Now, let’s realise our full potential.

With Labour on their side, no child is left behind.

Here’s what our local secondary schools and further education settings have achieved over the past year with Labour’s support:

Hartpury University – Awarded Specialist University of the Year! A standout achievement, putting the Forest of Dean on the map and broadening opportunities for our region and our young people.

SGS Forest High – Among the most improved schools in England for KS4 attainment, providing the education children in the Forest deserve.

Dene Magna – Students performed 7% above national figures across all key measures—a remarkable achievement and improvement from 2024. Announced as the best performing state secondary school in Gloucestershire!

Five Acres High School – Ranked among the top 5% of schools nationally. Its impressive progress has been acknowledged by Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson and highlighted as an example of best practice for schools across the country.

A year of a Labour Government has made this progress possible!

As Bridget Phillipson said, the Forest will move from:

“Forgotten to included. Narrow to broad. Withdrawn to engaged.”

With Labour, every child—no matter their background—will have access to an excellent education in the Forest of Dean.

Primary schools and young families are already benefiting from:

  • 30 hours a week of free childcare

  • Free breakfast clubs for primary school children

  • Libraries in every primary school

  • Affordable school uniforms

  • Best Start Family Hubs

  • Free school meals extended to 500,000 more children

  • Improved mental health support in schools

  • Stronger rights for parents to request flexible working

And this is just the start.

I am committed to ensure every child in the Forest of Dean has access to the education and opportunities they deserve!

This is the difference Labour makes in one year: We’ve only just began.
