Visiting Harry's Pals

It was an absolute honour to meet Hayley and Harry yesterday to discuss the formation of a new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) to support parent carers.

Harry’s story is a powerful reminder of why change is so urgently needed. The lack of emotional and statutory support for parents like Hayley is something most of us never think about—until it happens to us. Research shows the toll is devastating: 55% of parent carers felt their lives were not worth living, 47% had thought about taking their own life, and 1 in 10 had attempted it.

Meeting Hayley and Harry in person highlighted how important this cause is, and I am determined to make these changes happen.

Every parent carer, now and in the future, depends on what we do today.

With cross-party support and early indications of positivity from fellow MPs, the creation of this APPG is a huge step in the right direction. It gives us a real chance to drive meaningful change—improving support for families and, ultimately, saving the lives of parent carers.

Harry and his family are a complete inspiration, and there are families like them all across the country. Their dedication to campaigning and supporting parent carers is truly admirable. Something has to change, and I am proud to be part of making that change happen.
