It was brilliant to welcome Hartpury University and Hartpury College to Parliament this week for an inspiring event on women in sport.
I was proud to sponsor this important discussion, which brought together voices from across sport, politics, and the wider sector. The focus was on how we can do more to create equal opportunities for women, from driving investment to raising the profile of women’s sport.
It was especially powerful to hear Zoe Stratford and Sam Monaghan share their personal journeys in sport. As Gloucester-Hartpury rugby players, their insights were invaluable in highlighting how far we’ve come, while also reminding us how much work still lies ahead.
I’m proud to have such strong advocates for women in sport in my constituency, and to see the leadership being shown by Hartpury and its partners across the sector.
A particular thank you to Stuart Emmerson and his team for their hard work and dedication in making this event happen, and for everything they continue to do to drive this important cause forward more widely.
Real progress is being made in women’s sport, and this event showed just what we can achieve by working together to ensure women have equal opportunities and greater access at every level—on and off the field.
