This is appalling.
Every woman and girl should feel safe wherever they are — especially in places that are meant to provide security and privacy. Incidents like this are a stark reminder that we must continue to do more to tackle violence against women and girls and ensure proper safeguards are in place.
It is also hard to understand how a £30 refund could be considered an appropriate response from Travelodge.
I am writing to the CEO of Travelodge to request a meeting to understand how such a failure on this scale could have occurred.
Businesses and institutions have a responsibility to protect the people who trust them with their safety. When that trust is broken, it must be taken seriously, and lessons must be learned.
My thoughts are with the victim, and I commend the courage it takes to speak out.
