Mock Parliament: Session 3

Last week I held Session Three of my Mock Parliament programme at Dene Magna Sixth Form in Cinderford.

This session focused on preparing students for debating in the Chamber. Alongside practising parliamentary protocol and etiquette, students cemented their understanding of key procedures, such as “bobbing” to catch the Speaker’s eye, how to intervene during a speech, and what makes a strong contribution to a debate.

Students were also given the tools to help them write and deliver speeches on the bill that will be debated at the end of the programme. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow with each session, as well as their understanding of the parliamentary process and the issues they’re preparing to debate.

A big thank you to Dene Magna Sixth Form for welcoming us, and to all the schools taking part for giving their students this opportunity. It’s great to see so many young people building the confidence to speak up, share their views, and take part in debates that matter to them.
