A40: Overnight Closure 19th October

As many of you will know, the A40 will be closed in both directions overnight on Monday 19 October, from 8pm until 6am on Tuesday morning, between Over Roundabout and Highnam Roundabout. This is to allow the contraflow to switch to the other side of the bridge.

The good news is that the bus lane into Gloucester will then be available for public transport, which should help ease some of the pressure, so that’s a welcome step forward.

I’ve had further reassurances from National Highways that the overall completion deadline remains on track at this stage.

They will also be using new and additional machinery and applying lessons learned from the work already carried out on the first side of the bridge to help make up time during the next phase and minimise the impact of the delays so far.

I’ll continue to keep you updated as I receive further information. I know many of you are keen to see this work completed, as am I, so it’s welcome news that the overall deadline remains on track for now, and that the bus lane will be available again.

Please plan ahead if you’re travelling that night and follow the signed diversion routes.
